From A’s Bookshelf: Current Favourites

If your toddler is anything like mine, you’ll know that choosing books isn’t always as simple as picking something new and exciting. Lately, I’ve noticed that my toddler has become very particular about the books we read. While I try to rotate books every couple of weeks to introduce new topics and stories, he tends to latch onto a few favourites and wants to read those on repeat for that entire period.

At first, I wondered if I should be encouraging more variety — after all, I want him to be exposed to as many different stories, words, and ideas as possible. But the more I’ve observed him, the more I’ve realised that this phase is actually something really special.

There’s something comforting to him about familiarity. He knows what’s coming next, he recognises the pictures, and sometimes he even “reads” parts of the story himself in his own way. It’s not just about the book — it’s about confidence, memory, and enjoyment.

So instead of trying to constantly switch things up, I’ve decided to lean into it.

I’m starting a little series called “From A’s Bookshelf: Current Favourites”, where I’ll share the books he naturally gravitates towards during that time.

One thing to note is that at the moment, he’s really interested in non-fiction books, so not everything we share will be traditional stories. Some weeks might include more fact-based or topic-led books depending on what has captured his interest at the time — and I’m learning to follow that curiosity rather than steer it.

This is simply a small window into what we’re loving right now — a space to share ideas, inspiration, and the books that are currently part of our everyday reading
